About us

In 2010, Fa Guang saw a lack of effective spiritual cultivation practices that were effective for the busy laity of the Western world.  Often consumed by families, spouses, careers, etc., the average Westerner was unable to devote oneself full time to Buddhahood cultivation, renouncing the worldly life, and entering into the Sangha (Buddhist community) as a monastic.  

Knowing the great benefits of Nianfo cultivation practice, it's simplicity, and effectiveness even in the busiest of lives, Fa Guang developed a strong desire to bring forth these time tested methods of Buddhahood cultivation to the western audience in way that would be understood by their own culture. 

With the permission of his master - Venerable Shanjian Da Shi, of Mahabodhi Sunyata, The United States Nianfo Society was birthed in 2014.

Our Mission

The United States Nianfo Society aims to introduce and educate the Western audience to the practice of niànfó 念佛 - Buddha's Name recitation as the sole cultivation practice for those wishing to achieve Buddhahood in one lifetime.
