Having grown up with a love for Chinese culture, Fa Guang 法光 (Dharma name meaning "Dharma Light" or "Light of the Dharma") was introduced to Pure Land practices at a very early age in Manhattan Chinatown, NYC.

Having a deep love for its serene and simplistic methods, he sought to shape his life around the practice of niànfó 念佛 - Buddha's Name recitation.  It was in this deep love that he would come in contact with his late master - Shanjian Da Shi.

Master Shanjian would spend the next 11 years in correspondence guiding Fa Guang into deeper cultivation of
niànfó 念佛.

During this cultivation period, Fa Guang expressed his desire to form a society for the laity immersed in the busy Western culture to learn niànfó 念佛 as the sole method of cultivation to enter into Buddhahood.

With the blessing of Master Shanjian Da Shi - and to honor his teachings since his passing, the United States Nianfo Society has been birthed, with Fa Guang as the guardian of the Society.

Today, Fa Guang is married with children and grandchildren, while still continuously shaping his life around the serene and pure cultivation of
niànfó 念佛.
